| "Dr.
Steven M. Hoefflin often cites his good friend Tony
Curtis as an example of someone who perfectly illustrates
his definition of male handsomeness. ("He's changed
from a very pretty face to a more masculine face as
he has gotten older," Hoefflin says.) Male attractiveness
is a subject Hoefflin has spent a good bit of time
thinking about. As he writes in his forthcoming book,
The Handsome Face: A Mathematical Analysis, Definition,
and Surgical Creation, "I would define handsome
as an image that catches and holds one's visual and
emotional attention... The poweful, rugged, handsome
male face may have acceptable folds and lines of maturity,
some acceptable acne scars, etc. This adds to the
recognition of power and success, possibly facial
badges of honor obtained from the many battlefields
of life. A woman wanta a flawless face. A man must
have signs of facial maturity, power, and battles
to be very attractive to a female. |
